HEAT LOSS & HEAT GAIN CALCULATIONS (HLHG)

Heat Loss: A calculation which determines the maximum amount of heat (Btu/h or KW) that is required to condition a building based on the outdoor winter design temperature. The outdoor winter design temperatures are established in section 9.33.3.2 of the 2012 Ontario Building Code.

Heat Gain: A calculation which determines the optimum amount of cooling (Btu/h or Tons) that is required to best manage temperature (sensible) and humidity (latent) of a building including considerations for solar gains through windows and internal heat gains from people and appliances.

MECHANICAL VENTILATION SUMMARY (MVDS)

Along with an Application for a Permit to Construct, municipalities within Ontario may require a Mechanical Ventilation Design Summary (MVDS) and/or Record form to be completed by a Certified Design Firm. The one page form is intended to ensure that the Ontario Building Code’s 2012 minimum ventilation requirements are being achieved. One MVDS form is required for each dwelling (apartment, house, semi, civic address).

For municipal applications and occupancies permits. A form to demonstrate the energy efficiency design of your building complies with the building code.
