Along with an Application for a Permit to Construct, the City of Ottawa requires a Mechanical Design Report (MDR) AND A FULL MECHANICAL DESIGN, which includes but not limited to, a heat loss/gain calculation, duct design with layout, radiant design with layout and a ventilation design with layout. The noted requirements are to be completed by a Certified Design Firm and come complete with BCIN certification stamp. The MDR form is a summary of the mechanical system and intended to ensure that the Ontario Building Code’s 2012 requirements for ventilation, heating and cooling equipment are met. One MDR form supported by a full mechanical design is required for each dwelling unit (house, apartment, semi-detached with a civic address).

If you have any questions regarding this process, please call our office. 1-877-522-4822 x203

NOTE: MDR is not an independent form which can be completed in 1-2 business days; it is a part of a Full Mechanical Design package. The production and delivery time depends on the size and the complexity of the project. Our Sales Coordinator will be happy to answer any questions you may have regarding the design process.
