Performance Modelling
EEDS - Performance Compliance
The Performance path of achieving compliance allows projects to build with different components (insulation, windows and mechanical efficiencies) than listed in the Prescriptive Tables. Build how you want while proving to the Municipality that your structure will perform at or above the efficiencies listed within the Prescriptive Tables.
Performance compliance requires the creation of two annual energy models using one of the approved energy modeling softwares. The first model would be calculated as per Prescriptive Package (considering that glazing area is 22% maximum) to determine the base annual energy consumption. The second calculation (model) is done based on the building components and glazing area in the house as designed to check if the house meets OBC energy targets and provide recommendations on upgrades that need to be done if the target is not met.
Common reasons to leverage a Performance Compliance option include:
All homes with a window to wall ratio greater than 22%, requires a model.
Substitutions in favor of non-standard construction practices or materials.
Elimination of required building components, such as drain water heat recovery units.
Your performance models must be completed by a Registered Energy Advisor and performance reports submitted to the building department at the time of permit application.
